Using Sound in Our Everyday Lives

If sound is the true medium of creation/manifestation/healing, how are some ways we can use it in our everyday lives and environments (especially for those of us who live in the city and don't get to be out in nature as often as we'd like)?

  • I haven't done this in a while, but in my reiki book it talks about gibberish meditation. To do this you get into a meditative state and let flow from your mouth whatever wants to come out. I find it to be deeply healing and refreshing. I've also done this in groups with fun results.
  • Fascinating stuff, Penelope. Thanks for sharing!

Being a massage therapist, I find that the sound of running water (fountain) works very well to relax my clients. Most people are not extraordinarily sensitive to their surroundings. In fact, quiet and silence can sometimes make people "feel" uncomfortable since they are so accustomed to hearing sound (mostly noise) all day long. Consequently, they tend to want to talk the whole time they are on the treatment table.   Weather sounds can also be a source of triggers. Canadian neuroscientist Werner Becker found that the Chinook wind, which blows into Alberta province from the Rocky Mountains - sometimes at speeds of 100 mph - can sometimes trigger migraines.  Here in upstate Michigan, the noreasters can howl for hours, usually at night, and the feeling one gets is to want to hunker down under some down covers and get to sleeping.  And how about those long rainstorms with the thunder and lightening!  One more thing I just have to mention: auroras.  The sounds have been recorded and are the subject of ongoing investigation and speculation.  Hissing, swishing, rustling and crackling has been reported and I have heard it myself. So, can we actually "hear" electromagnetic radiation?  This is supposed to be inaudible, yet there is a sound (at least to some sensitive people).

  • I personally love indoor fountains and imagine they do contribute to better household energy. Certainly, they're often used in feng shui ...

  • Interesting about the ancient Solfeggio wind chimes. I'll look it up. I've also read that having running water (such as a water fountain) cleanses and enhances the energy in a room.

  • I don't know about wind chimes in particular, but I wouldn't rule this out. I seem to recall seeing some ancient Solfeggio wind chimes somewhere ...

  • Would still be interested in knowing if anyone has anything to share on this. For example, can wind chimes have a very powerful effect on our astral environment?
