"Your Overflowing Secrets" by Rumi
"Never mind what the world does.
What do you do?
Worlds always become houses of idols.
Where is your hidden beauty?
Let's suppose that famine covered the earth.
From now on nothing--no bread, no soup, no food on the table.
O one who sometimes reveals himself
and sometimes remains hidden,
where is your pantry, where is your granary?
Let's suppose that the world became a field of thorns,
filled with snakes and scorpions.
O joyful musician of the soul,
where is your rose garden?
Let's suppose that generosity died,
that greed killed everyone.
O our heart, where is your kindness,
where is your gifting?
Let's suppose the moon and sun have gone away,
become invisible.
O one who shows us how to see and hear,
where is your blaze? Where is your light?
Let's suppose no merchant was left to sell pearls
How come you're not decked out in jewels?
Where are your clouds that rain pearls?
Let's suppose that not a single mouth or tongue
could be found to reveal a secret.
All right, but . . . how can you hide
your overflowing secrets?"
